Brazil vs Argentina called-off after breaching of COVID-19 protocols
Brazil and Argentina players had to walk off the pitch after Brazilian health officials intervened during the game and halted the match to confine few Argentine players.
In a most shocking incident in football, the match between Brazil vs Argentina was suspended after Premier League stars, Emi Martinez, Emiliano Buendia, Gio Lo Celso, and Christian Romero failed to follow public health regulations Covid-19 protocols.
The reports state, ANVISA, Brazil's national health surveillance agency, tried stopping the Argentine players before the start of the match as they (ANVISA officials) went to Argentina's team hotel to avert Emi Martinez, Emiliano Buendia, Gio Lo Celso, and Christian Romero from playing the game.
However, before they could do so the players had already reached the stadium, this led to the ANVISA, marching onto the pitch in-between the game and detaining the four Premier League stars.
Brazil's national health surveillance agency released a statement. The four Argentine players will have to be sent to the locker room and are prohibited from entering the pitch. This led to the suspension of game, while Brazilian and Argentina questioned the officials.
All the players were disappointed with the Brazilian authorities, as their treatment towards the players were bitter, and Lionel Messi was upset after he was told to leave the pitch.
However, Messi was spotted confronting the Brazilian authorities, as some of his compatriots were accused of breaching COVID-19 protocols.
Leo Messi said “it’s an embarrassment. We have been here for 3 days and nothing happened”
Not only Messi, but Lionel Scaloni was discontent with the authorities’ decision, and asked them “why it took the authorities nearly three days to come to such a decision”
CONMEBOL statement: "By decision of the match referee, the match organized by FIFA between Brazil and Argentina for the World Cup Qualifiers is suspended. The referee and the match commissioner will submit a report to the FIFA Disciplinary Committee, which will determine the steps to be followed. These procedures strictly adhere to current regulations. The World Cup Qualifiers is a FIFA competition. All decisions concerning its organization and development are the exclusive power of that institution."
The Argentine players left for the airport, and Brazilian players stayed as they were told to play and entertain the crowd with a five-a-side game.
