England 2022 World Cup Guide | All you need to know

England will look to end their 56-year drought for a World Cup trophy in the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2022 as they take the center stage in Qatar. 

One of the favourites to win the tournament, the team led by Harry Kane has been in superb form in big tournaments having made it to the semifinals of the 2018 edition of the World Cup while losing in the penalty shootout against Italy in the Euro 2020 final. While it has been so near, yet so far for Gareth Southgate’s men, Qatar 2022 could finally bring football home as the fans face an anxious wait.

Qualification campaign for England

Despite England’s recent relegation from the Nations League, they were impeccable and rock solid in the qualification campaign and were one of five teams that went the entire campaign unbeaten. England conceded just three goals in the entire qualification campaign (joint-second) and saw off the challenge from Poland, Albania, Hungary, Andorra, and San Marin to punch their ticket to Qatar.

World Cup Group Details

The Group B in which England are placed won’t be a straightforward affair as they face USA, Iran, and British counterparts Wales, who make their return to the World Cup after 64 years. Southgate’s men will start their adventure in Al Rayyan against Iran on Monday (November 21) before they shift their base to Al Khor.

The USA await the second group match on Friday (November 25) and will know anything less than a win will see them struggle. England’s final group game on Tuesday (November 29) will be another spicy affair against Wales at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan. England are expected to win their group and will potentially face either Senegal or the Netherlands, who are likely to finish as runners-up from Group A.
