FIFA World Cup 2022: England vs Iran Head to Head | H2H Prediction | Lineup | UK Time
Day 2 at the FIFA World Cup 2022 starts off with England going head to head against Iran in Group B opener.
1966 Champions England will look to win their second FIFA World Cup as they try to end their 56-year wait for the coveted trophy.
Placed in Group B alongside USA, Wales and Iran, Gareth Southgate’s side will look to go one better this time after a semifinal exit in 2018.
With Iran also buying for a place in the knockout stage for the first time, it will be interesting to see how the spicy affair between the two nations turns out in their first-ever competitive meeting.
England vs Iran: Head to Head
England and Iran have never met head-to-head before in a competitive game and will lock horns for the first time.
Both teams can be a threat on their day and could come in handy if given an opportunity. Currently ranked 20th in the World, Iran are the highest-placed Asian team in the draw and have an element of surprise in them in the form of Sardar Azmoun of Bayer Leverkusen and Karim Ansarifard of Omonia.
England on the flip side will have the services of talisman Harry Kane who will be supported by Raheem Sterling and Phil Foden.
England’s bench also makes a remarkable reading as they possess the likes of Bukayo Saka and Marcus Rashford in attack and could cause Iran all sorts of a problem on a given day. The defense also has a good blend of experience in the form of John Stones, Eric Dier and Harry Maguire.
England vs Iran: Group B Details
Both England and Iran will look for a positive start to their World Cup campaign and will know any slip-up could have huge consequences.
After the curtain-raising game in the group, both teams will be back in action on Friday (November 25). England will take on the United States at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor in a late kickoff while Iran will take on Wales at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan.
