Paul Ince believes Rashford is carrying Manchester United flops
Marcus Rashford's body is under strain because he is surrounded by players not worthy of the Manchester United badge, according to former club captain Paul Ince.
The English international could not be a part of the squad for the Red Devils' trip to Anfield against Liverpool yesterday after pulling up with a back injury in their FA Cup clash with Wolves in mid-week.
The 22-year-old striker has scored 14 Premier League goals this season which is almost half of the whole team's tally. His absence in the crunch match against the Reds showed why Ole Gunnar Solskjaer relies so much on the striker as the Red Devils lost the match 2-0 at Anfield.
Former Red Devils' favourite and two-time Premier League winner Ince believes that Rashford is being forced to put his body in the line as he is surrounded by unworthy players in the team.
Ince said: “Rashford is one of the very few players I would call a proper United player in that team.
“He understands the history and what level you need to be to be a top player.
“He is at that level and goes the extra 100 yards – and he puts a strain on his body by doing that.
“Maybe that’s the reason he gets injured. Liverpool and City can go two goals or three goals up and bring off their top players – United cannot do that.
“The club rely on Rashford because they cannot score goals without him.
“Is he the victim of his own success? You could say that, but this is where they are currently.”
Ince has also questioned the durability of Rashford’s body, suggesting that at his age he should be able to soldier on with the type of injury he has picked up.
He stated: “When you are at that age however, you should be able to play every game.
“We are not talking about me when I was at Wolves at 34 or 35 and having to sit out of training sessions because I was that old.
“When you are young and playing well you want to play every game and should be capable.”
Ince has also requested his former teammate and now the manager of United, Solskjaer, to ignore any call from England boss Gareth Southgate urging to rest Rashford ahead of the Euros.
He said: “I don’t get why people worry about the Euros now. Ole should not be resting his star player because there is a tournament in six months.
“Ole has a responsibility to United and if he decides to play Rashford in every game until the end of the season, that’s his decision.
“He has to do what is best for United, not for England.”
