Manchester United Possible Line-up for 2021/22 Season
The new Premier League season has already kick-started, and Manchester United started their new campaign with a five-star performance against Leeds United on the opening day of the Premier League. Sportco predicts how Manchester United could line-up for the 2021/22 season.
The Red Devils have been trophyless for four years. However, they came close to winning a trophy last year. Villarreal marred United's chances of winning a trophy, by routing them 11-10 in a penalty shootout.
Since taking over the helms at Man Utd, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has done a lot to ameliorate Manchester United in terms of form and consistency. The Norwegian has tried to transform his club into a serious competitor for trophies, following a 2nd place finish last season.
Manchester United has done well in the 2021 transfer window so far, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane being their marquee signings. Having one of the best squads in the Premier League, they will aim to end their eight-year title drought.
So let us look at how Manchester United could line up in the 2021/22 season
GK: Dean Henderson
Dean Henderson has replaced David de Gea between the sticks and fancies his chances of becoming the first-choice keeper of the Red Devils.
It looks like David de Gea will start the season between the sticks, as Henderson contracted COVID. Nonetheless, D. Henderson has become a long-term keeper, and De Gea is not what he was once.
Center-backs: Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane
United has bolstered this defense after the signing of Raphael Varane from Real Madrid. Harry Maguire and Varane, being at the heart of the defense, will be indispensable in the upcoming season.
Both Varane and Maguire are tall and good in the air. However, Varane is faster than Maguire, which could be a helping hand for him, and the pair could form a great tandem.
Hence, we can expect the pair to be a mainstay in starting line-up for Manchester United for the 2021/22 season.
Right-Backs & Left-Backs: Aron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw
Aron Wan-Bissaka has improved with time, despite Manchester United's interest in replacing him with Kieran Trippier.
The deal is yet to be made, and Bissaka’s position should be his for a long time to come. Although there are some foibles he needs to fix, like his defending on crosses and constant development in going forward.
Luke Shaw has made a stunning comeback since his injury. He was instrumental for United last season and for England in the recently concluded Euro.
However, he will have to prevent himself from picking any injury if he wants to continue for the long term.
Midfielders: Fred, Paul Pogba, and Bruno Fernandes
Manchester United are still casting around for the CDM after a poor performance of Fred and Scott McTominay the previous season. Manchester United showed interest in signing West Ham star Declan Rice, but couldn’t match the £80 million valuations.
Paul Pogba hasn’t shown consistency since arriving in Manchester United and has come under scrutiny due to this.
Pogba is believed to have a close relationship with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, hence he will be unlikely to depart and will be a mainstay in the starting line-up of Manchester United for the 2021/22 season.
Bruno Fernandes was the driving force behind Manchester United’s resuscitation. The Portuguese midfielder scored a whopping 28 goals and provided 17 assists in 58 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils.
He will play a significant role this season as well.
Forwards: Edinson Cavani, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho
Manchester United finally completed their much-awaited signing of Jadon Sancho, who has been on United’s radar over the years. Sancho playing alongside Rashford will be exciting to watch.
Marcus Rashford had a subdued 2020-21 campaign, although he managed to score only 21 goals and 15 assists in all competitions for Manchester United. However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer trusts Marcus Rashford and will start him on the left wing, and Rashford will make the most of those changes.
On the other hand, Edinson Cavani had a decent season with Manchester United as he ended the season with 17 goals in 39 appearances in all competitions.
Cavani’s poacher finishing has helped United score many goals last season, which resulted in Manchester United extending his contract.
'El Matador' as he fondly called, would be expected to lead the line for Ole Solskjaer and will be a regular in the Manchester United line-up for the 2021/22 season.
Do you agree with our list? Which players from the bench do you think deserve a place in the starting line-up for Manchester United for the upcoming 2021/22 season?
