Experienced Manchester United star could be on his way to MLS

Out of favour Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic is in talks with MLS side Chicago Fire regarding a lucrative move. 

The midfield enforcer will be on his way out of Old Trafford at the end of this season with his contract expiring.

It is a public knowledge that the Serb is desperately looking for an exit and he could get that in this winter transfer window itself. 

Reports further claim that Chicago Fire are planning to make the two-time Premier League winner their ‘designated signing’ and are set to offer about a £5million-a-year contract. 

The 31-year-old midfield dynamo appeals to the MLS side because they have a large Eastern European fan base in their area and Matic has one of the biggest players from that part of Europe in recent times.

The MLS giants want Matic to take over from German superstar Bastian Schweinsteiger, whom they also signed from Manchester United. The World Cup winner with Germany recently hung up his boots and his boots are indeed big to fill.

If the move for Matic stalls, Chicago Fire will switch to Bayern Munich’s Spaniard Javi Martinez as they plot to spend big cash on the anchorman role.  

Matic's career has been on the downward graph in recent months but he is being used more off late with Scott McTominay injured. And, that is the reason why a move might not happen as the Red Devils are desperately short of options in the middle of the park. 

The Red Devils will have the final say on whether Matic leaves for the start of the MLS season on February 29 as he may be needed as an emergency centre-half. 

However, the American deadline is not until the end of next month, so there is still time to let him go. 

Matic is also wanted by a number of clubs in Europe. His former managers Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho both are reportedly looking to reunite with the defensive midfielder at Inter Milan and Spurs respectively. 

Meanwhile, AC Milan also are in the race for the 31-year-old's signature as they look to fight back in the second half of the Serie A season.
