Portugal 2022 World Cup Guide | All you need to know
2016 European Champions Portugal will look to claim a historic World Cup triumph as they march into Qatar with a roster full of superstar players. Led by the iconic and legendary Cristiano Ronaldo, it won’t be a surprise if Portugal go all the way and win the FIFA World Cup 2022, despite being the dark horse.
The campaign in Qatar will also serve as the last opportunity for Ronaldo, 37, to win the World Cup as he is unlikely to play the next World Cup in 2026.
Qualification campaign for Portugal
Portugal had to suffer last-minute heartbreak to automatically qualify for the FIFA World Cup after losing to Serbia in the final minute of their group qualification campaign. Things could have gone from bad to worse for them as they were likely to face four-time World Champions Italy in the playoff final, but instead faced North Macedonia. The latter defeated Italy in the playoff semifinal, with Portugal guaranteeing their place in Qatar with a win against Macedonia in the playoff.
