Former Man City star hangs up his boots! Sergio Aguero Retirement News

Sergio Aguero, who has recently struggled with injuries, will announce his retirement from football following a health problem less than six months after joining Barcelona. 

The 33-year-old suffered chest discomfort in his final game on 30th October against Alaves and was stretched off the pitch. 

The former Manchester City striker will bid adieu to his football career with 427 goals in 786 games.

One of the best foreign players to grace the Premier League 

However, his start for the Catalan side didn’t go as expected, but Sergio Aguero had a glittering career with his previous clubs where he stamped his authority. 

After making his debut for Argentine club Independiente, Aguero moved to Atletico Madrid, where he won Europa League and scored 101 goals in 234 appearances.

His presence grew in Europe, and many top European teams were chasing him. Manchester City were lucky to get his signature and signed him in £38m. 

Sergio Aguero would later etch his name in Manchester City’s folklore during his 10-year spell at the club breaking many records.

The Barcelona striker scored 260 goals in 390 games, including 16 hat-tricks. He is the highest-scoring overseas player in Premier League history with 184 goals, nine more than former Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.

Alan Shearer (260), Wayne Rooney (208) and Andrew Cold (187) are the only players to have scored more goals in the competition history. 

Although Aguero tops the list of better minutes-per-goal records in the Premier League. His every goal came in 107.9 minutes, while Thierry Henry is next with 121.8 minutes.

And the most iconic moment in his illustrious career where he scored the most crucial goal against Queens Park Rangers and led the club to the first-ever Premier League title since 1968, halting Manchester United by goal difference who were also in the race.

He concluded his Manchester City career winning five Premier League titles, one FA Cup and six League Cups.

Move to Barcelona and end of his football career

Sergio Aguero moved to Barcelona on a free transfer to join his compatriot Lionel Messi. It looked like both would form a great partnership up-front, but Blaugrana’s financial problem saw Lionel Messi joining PSG.

His life at Barcelona started on a sour note as he picked up a calf injury which kept him out until October. Aguero eventually made his debut and scored a goal in a 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid on 24th October. 

Six days later, he made his first start for Barcelona against Alaves on 30th October but was quickly withdrawn after feeling a chest discomfort. 

Many rumours started that Sergio Aguero will be taking up retirement from football, although Aguero addressed that on social media, saying he would take doctor’s advice in making his decision regarding his football career.   

After his cardiac exam, Barcelona announced Aguero would be out for 90 days to assess his progress, and reports suggested Aguero was diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia - an irregular heartbeat. 

However, his decision about his playing future has come sooner than expected. Since joining Barcelona, he has made only five appearances.
