Legendary midfielder Xavi to manage Barcelona?
After an unlucky game against Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid, Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde’s future is uncertain as Barcelona have offered former Barcelona midfielder and current Al Sadd boss, Xavi a deal to replace Valverde as the Barcelona coach.
Valverde has been under pressure of losing his job since the starting of the last season.
The Cules were disappointed and deeply hurt after the Champions League game at Anfield and desired that a new manager should be roped in.
However, the Barcelona board trusted Valverde and did not take any severe action against the boss.
Valverde whenever asked about his concerns over being sacked, was calm and did not react to it.
However, the Barcelona boss’ tactics are questioned regularly as the squad has lacked consistency. Now, Valverde has been reported to be under serious trouble after Thursday’s Supercopa de Espana semi-final loss to rivals, Atletico Madrid.
The game was a very close one and it was VAR which played a very crucial part in the Rojiblancos’ win as Barcelona scored twice but VAR ruled out both the goals.
Barcelona have offered the legendary midfielder Xavi a two-and-a-half-year contract to replace Valverde, according to AS.
Xavi’s potential return to Camp Nou, where he won eight La Liga titles and four Champions Leagues in a glittering playing career, is currently ruling over all the other headlines in Spain.
Fans are excited about his arrival but there have been contradictory reports as well.
Valverde has been reported to have the backing of senior Barcelona players like Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets and also Luis Suarez, who is set for surgery after a tiring semi-final.
A sacking in the mid-season is very unlikely as Barcelona are still on the top of La Liga, marginally ahead of their biggest rivals, Real Madrid.
The cover of Sport reads ‘Earthquake Xavi’ while Marca also reports that Barcelona have offered the job to the former midfielder.
Andres Iniesta is another former player, who was asked about a return to Barcelona. Iniesta, as cool as always replied by saying that he will return only if he thinks that his game is on the level of Barcelona at the moment. Modesty at its best!
