Chelsea vs Liverpool FA Cup Final 2022: Predicted Lineup |Team news | Time | Prediction

The stage is set for the 141st FA Cup final on Saturday (May 14) as Chelsea and Liverpool lock horns at the Wembley Stadium in London.

The rivals have a rich history in the competition having won the prestigious honour on multiple occasions.

While the dream of an unprecedented quadruple still exists for Liverpool, Chelsea will try to put a spanner in their work by exacting revenge having previously lost the EFL Cup final to the same opposition.

Chelsea and Liverpool: History in the FA Cup

This will be Chelsea’s 16th FA Cup final while Liverpool will stage their 15th final appearance. Both the teams share a combined 15 FA Cup titles between them with Chelsea winning on eight occasions and Liverpool triumphing of seven occasions. Interestingly, this is Chelsea’s third consecutive final appearance and fifth in six seasons.

Chelsea last won the title in 2018 under Antonio Conte’s stewardship beating Manchester United 1-0 in the final.

Since 2017 the West Londoners have made it to a Wembley final every year either in the FA Cup or EFL Cup. Liverpool’s last FA Cup success came in 2006 at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff as they beat West Ham United on penalties with Steven Gerrard running the show.

This year’s FA Cup final will be unique in its own as both teams also met in the EFL Cup final, a rare occasion when both English finals are contested between the two teams.

To make matters even more interesting, if Chelsea emerges victorious in the FA Cup final and Liverpool win the Premier League (PL) they could met in the FA Community Shield at the start of next season. Both Chelsea and Liverpool also met in the 2019 UEFA Super Cup.

Head to Head

The only previous meeting between the two sides in the FA Cup final came in 2012 as a Didier Drogba inspired Chelsea emerged victoriously.

Since then plenty of water has gone underneath the bridge as both Chelsea and Liverpool have conquered English and European football ever since.
