Tottenham Hotspur plotting a revenge on London rivals Chelsea

Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur are plotting a revenge on their London rivals Chelsea as they target their star attacking midfielder Willian on a free transfer. Seven years ago, the north London side were very close to signing the Brazilian international but Chelsea hijacked the deal and now Spurs are preparing to take a revenge.

Willian's contract at Stamford Bridge expires this summer and he is already allowed to speak to clubs outside England to discuss a pre-contract ahead of a free transfer in the summer.

Chelsea are desperate to retain the services of the flamboyant playmaker and the manager Frank Lampard has personally requested the player to stay. The Blues have already offered the 31-year-old a one-year extension, though the player is seeking a two-year deal and increase on his £110,000-a-week wages.

However, as per Chelsea's strategy, they only offer one-year extensions to the players beyond the age of 30. Even the likes of Frank Lampard and John Terry was not exceptions to this strategy.

Barcelona, Juventus and AC Milan have all shown interest in the Chelsea winger but Spurs are also believed to be in the race. And, Jose Mourinho is believed to be the reason why the player could be on his way to the north London club.

Mourinho is a huge fan of the 31-year-old. He was the Chelsea manager when Willian joined the club and he even wanted him at Manchester United. It's hardly a surprise that the Portuguese again wants a reunion at White Hart Lane, especially with Christian Eriksen set to depart.

Spurs saw their transfer for Willian hijacked right at the last moment as the Brazilian instead chose to move to Chelsea for £30million from Anzhi Makhachkala in 2013. The Spurs snub became a popular one among Chelsea fans, who created the Brazilian a chant that ends in “he hates Tottenham”.

Meanwhile,  Chelsea have cooled off their interest in Borussia Dortmund forward Jadon Sancho this month as per reports.

The Blues will not be put off by the England winger’s £100m price tag, but Lampard has distanced himself from a move for Crystal Palace’s £80m star Wilfred Zaha as well.
